We are a group of women grandmothers AND grandothers, in the Nelson area, who want to make a difference in the world. We are a 'purpose group' who create all kinds of events and things for sale, to raise funds for the Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Local quilters, and local beekeepers are donating beautiful fabric and wonderful beeswax to Nelson Grans, who turn them into their popular beeswax wraps - the alternative to plastic food wrap.
Bakers offer yummy baked goods once a month at summer Cottonwood Markets.

Nelson Grans to Grans has raised over $350,000 for African grandmothers and the orphaned grandchildren in their care by the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign since 2006.

This is why we are so passionate about supporting the African grandmothers...
In sub-Saharan Africa, grandmothers single-handedly care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as ten to fifteen in one household. These magnificently courageous women have buried their own children and then look after their orphaned grandchildren, calling on astonishing reserves of love and emotional resilience. But they do so with almost no support. Even now, in 2024, there are more then 1500 new cases of HIV/Aids in teenage girls recorded every week. New initiatives are being spearheaded by the children who were orphaned a decade ago. They are continuing this fight continues even though it is not in the news. HIV / Aids is still a pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Stephen Lewis Foundation has directed the funds raised by the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign to community-based organizations in 15 sub-Saharan African countries that provide these indomitable grandmothers and the children with much needed support, such as food, housing grants, school fees for their grandchildren and grief counselling. After several years of sustained funding, made possible through the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, the SLF now has many projects in place that are equipped and experienced enough to scale-up their response in a significant way. They are poised to turn the tide of HIV and AIDS on the ground in a manner that, quite frankly, people did not even think was possible ten years ago.
