In Praise of Pews
Pew (7 of them) to be altered to 'works of art'
THE PROJECT
Seven cast-off pews from the Baptist Church in Nelson are being transformed by local artists including:
* PEW 1--Matty Kakes (Hillman) - painter

* PEW 6--Brian Malley - wood and metal worker.
* PEW 7--David Stryck- fine woodworker
At the same time, artists from the Nelson Youth Center are reinventing five well-used wooden chairs from Willow Point Church.
This is an exciting time for the Nelson Grans to Grans who are encouraging the artists to do their best work for an event where their work will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Imagine your workplace, patio or home enlivened by a creative and unique bench or chair. Plan to get a group of co-workers, friends or family together to bid in the auction and win one of these unique pieces.
PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDSThe transformed Pews and Chairs will be on on display May 24 to 28 from 12 noon to 6 pm at The Old Presbyterian Church (corner of Victoria/Kootenay Streets). The public is invited to vote on the People’s Choice Award for the best pew. During this week, vote for your favourite pew/chair for the People's Choice Award. The winner will be awarded two free weeks at a Cabos San Lucas beach time share.
GALA AUCTION AND CELEBRATIONBring your co-workers/family and friends May 28 from 6 to 8 pm. and place your bid with Auctioneer Corky Evans and win a work of art to enliven your workplace – home –patio – garden. Refreshmens will be served.
ARTISTS' PROFILES
Watch for profiles of the artists participating and more news about the event. We will have an auctioneer of note from community to keep the bidding lively. Artists profiles can be viewed on Facebook. Search for Nelson Grans2Grans
All proceeds from the auction will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
