Kazuri Jewellery Fundraiser
Two Events
The Nelson Grans held two events to sell Kazuri Jewellery--a luncheon at the Prestige Inn May 2010 and a Strawberry Tea at the Taghum Beach Bed and Breakfast June 2010.
Selling the jewellery was a very satisfying enterprise for the Grans group. Everyone felt a strong heart connection to the women working for the Kazuri Company, as well as a great deal of respect for their talent and hard work. As Judy Cameron, one of our members wrote, “The Kazuri Jewellery Project shows that these women are finding creative ways to be self-supporting. These events allowed us to bring the plight of the African Grandmothers into the spotlight again”.
Many Grans mentioned how pleased they were to have something African to sell. Apparently they have been asked on a number of occasions in the past why we don’t sell African items. Thanks go to the two Canadian women, Margaret Thomspon and Peggy Edwards, who have formed a not-for-profit company to import Kazuri Jewellery to Canada solely as a fundraising project for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
